How Do the Three Models Compare?
| Model | Display | mV measurement | Temperature compensation | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Auto Temp. model | 3½-digit LED | 0 to +1999 mV, 1 mV resolution | Automatic and manual, 0 to 100 °C | 230 V mains |
| Table model | 3½-digit LED | 0 to +1999 mV, 1 mV resolution | Manual, 0 to 100 °C | 230 V mains |
| Portable model | 3½-digit LCD | Not listed (pH only) | Manual, 0 to 100 °C | 1 x 9 V battery |
Choose the Auto Temp. model when sample temperatures vary and you want the reading corrected automatically, the Table model for routine bench work where setting the temperature by hand is acceptable, and the Portable model for use in the field or in classrooms without a mains socket, where pH readings alone are enough.
What Is the Digital pH Meter Used For?
A pH meter reads the small voltage produced by a glass combination electrode and shows it as a value on the 0–14 pH scale, where 7 is neutral, below 7 acidic and above 7 alkaline. This benchtop pH meter is everyday chemistry lab equipment for class 10 science practicals on acids, bases and salts, class 11 chemistry work on ionic equilibrium, pH titrations in college labs, and the testing of soil extracts, drinking water and other solutions in college and university laboratories. On the two mains models, the mV range can also be used for redox readings when a suitable electrode is connected.
For pH meter calibration, dissolve the supplied buffer tablets to make pH 7 and pH 4 solutions, set the reading in the pH 7 buffer, then use the slope correction to match the pH 4 buffer. Set the sample temperature (or let the Auto Temp. model do it), rinse the electrode with distilled water between samples, and keep its glass bulb wet when it is not in use. Rest the electrode in the stand during measurements and fit the dust cover after work.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Model — Auto Temp., Table or Portable, according to whether you need automatic temperature compensation, the mV range or battery operation.
- Spare combination electrodes and buffer tablets — useful for class sets, as electrodes are the part that wears with use.
- Mains supply — the Auto Temp. and Table models are listed for 230 V; mention your local supply in the enquiry.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
Frequently Asked Questions
What range and resolution does this pH meter have?
All three models read 0 to 14.00 pH with 0.01 pH resolution, and the listed accuracy is 0.01 pH. The Auto Temp. and Table models also measure 0 to +1999 mV with 1 mV resolution.
Which model has automatic temperature compensation?
The Auto Temp. model, which compensates automatically over 0 to 100 °C. The Table and Portable models have manual compensation over the same range, set by the user to the sample temperature.
What comes with the meter?
A combination pH electrode, buffer tablets for pH 4 and pH 7, an operation manual, an electrode stand and a dust cover, so the meter can be calibrated and used straight away.
Can it be used without mains power?
Yes, choose the Portable model, which runs on one 9 V battery and has an LCD. The Auto Temp. and Table models are mains-powered.
What is the slope correction for?
It adjusts the meter to the actual response of the electrode during two-buffer calibration. The listed range is 80 to 120%, which allows for the gradual change in an electrode’s response as it ages.
How does it differ from the Microprocessor pH Meter?
The microprocessor model is listed with an alphanumeric LCD, temperature measurement, auto buffer recognition and sample storage. This meter is a simpler 3½-digit instrument calibrated by hand with the buffers and the slope control.
What should an export enquiry include?
The model and quantity, the destination country and port or city, the delivery terms you prefer (for example FOB or CIF), any spare electrodes or buffers, packing or labelling needs, and a tender reference if one applies.
Who manufactures this pH meter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
Behind the JLab name is Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian maker of laboratory instruments and teaching apparatus, incorporated in 2017 with its base on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The pH meter is built at JLab’s own works and not bought in from a trader, which lets schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy direct from the factory, have each unit visually inspected before dispatch, and come back to the manufacturer for spares and repeat orders. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example DR Congo in Central Africa, Japan in East Asia, Malawi in East Africa, Namibia in Southern Africa and Niger in West Africa. Tender buyers can find details on the JLab lab tenders page.
