What Is a Dropper Used For in the Lab?
Whenever a practical calls for “a few drops”, a dropper does the job: iodine solution onto a leaf or food sample in the starch test, safranin or methylene blue onto onion peel or cheek cells for the class 9 stained temporary mounts, a drop of water or glycerine on a slide before the cover slip goes on, or indicator into a flask before titration. Squeeze the teat before dipping the tip into the liquid, release slowly to draw it up, and keep the tip pointing down so liquid does not run back into the rubber. Rinse the dropper with distilled water between reagents, or keep one dropper per bottle, so that stains and solutions do not mix.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the dropper and what is it made of?
It is 100 mm long, with a glass dropper tube and a rubber bulb (teat).
Does the dropper come with a bottle?
No — this listing is the dropper with its teat. For storing a reagent with its own dropping pipette, see the dropping bottle linked below and add it to the same enquiry.
Who manufactures this dropper?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and supplies it directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of lab glassware and biology lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. Droppers are produced at JLab’s own works and not bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order straight from the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Oman in the Middle East, Eswatini in Southern Africa, Panama in Central America and the Caribbean, Sudan in North Africa and Tonga in Oceania. Buyers working to a tender can see the JLab lab tenders page.
