Evaporating and Crystallising in the Dish
Support the dish on a wire gauze over a tripod, or on a water bath for gentle heat, and stir with a glass rod as the solution thickens so that it does not spit. To grow crystals, stop heating once a drop on a cold rod crystallises and let the dish cool slowly. Allow a hot dish to cool before washing it, as a sudden quench can crack porcelain.
