Why a 60° Cone Helps
A circle of filter paper folded in half and then in quarters opens into a cone of the same angle, so the paper lies against the funnel wall without gaps or creases. The inner ribs leave narrow channels behind the wet paper for air to escape. The outer ribs stop the funnel from sealing against the neck of a flask, so air can leave the receiver as the filtrate runs in. Rest the stem tip against the inside wall of the receiver for a steady flow without splashing.
