Autoclaving the Screw-Cap Flask
Loosen the cap until its threads disengage before the flask goes into the autoclave. A cap left screwed down traps air that expands in the heat and can distort the flask or the cap. Tighten it again once the flask has cooled, and the seal is ready for storing or carrying a solution.
Where a Sealed Flask Helps
With the cap on, a prepared solution can be swirled, kept on a shelf or carried between benches without spilling. Without it, the sloping sides let a titration flask be swirled hard while the liquid stays inside.
