Electric Fields Apparatus

Product Code : EL-SLE-5791
Jlab Export is a leading Electric Fields Apparatus Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Electric Fields Apparatus (code EL-SLE-5791) is a demonstration set for making electric field lines visible between charged electrodes in school and college physics. A transparent Perspex base carries a 90 mm glass dish, two 4 mm socket terminals stand on insulated pillars, and two wire point electrodes and two T-shaped electrodes let you set up different field shapes. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with the JLab Electric Field Apparatus?

ApparatusDishElectrodesOther listed details
This apparatus (EL-SLE-5791)Glass dish, 90 mm diameterTwo wire point electrodes, two T-shaped electrodesPerspex base; 4 mm sockets on insulated pillars
Electric Field ApparatusClear Petri dish, 90 mm diameter x 12 mm deepSix: two point, two line and two circular ring electrodesThumbscrew fine adjustment; transparent base for overhead projection; listed for use with a current-limited EHT supply

Choose this apparatus for the basic point and straight-edge field patterns; the six-electrode version adds ring electrodes and fine adjustment for a wider set of shapes.

What Is the Electric Fields Apparatus Used For?

Field lines are invisible, but they can be shown with a thin layer of an insulating oil, such as castor oil, in the dish and a light sprinkling of semolina or grass seed. When the electrodes dip into the oil and are connected through the 4 mm sockets to a high-voltage source, the particles become polarised and line up along the field. Two point electrodes give the curved pattern of a pair of opposite charges, a point and a T-shaped electrode show the field between a charge and a straight conductor, and the straight bars of the two T-shaped electrodes placed face to face model the nearly uniform field between parallel plates. Because the base is transparent, the pattern can be viewed or photographed from below or projected for a class. The apparatus supports the electric charges and fields chapter of class 12 physics and college electrostatics practicals.

Use only a current-limited high-voltage supply intended for school demonstrations, such as an EHT supply or a Van de Graaff generator, switch it off and discharge the electrodes before moving them, and clean the dish and electrodes after use so oil and particles do not dry on the glass.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
  • High-voltage source — a current-limited supply or electrostatic generator is a separate item; add one to the same enquiry if needed.
  • Spare electrodes or dishes — list any spares you want for class sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the electric fields apparatus used for?
Showing the shape of electric fields between charged electrodes. Particles floating in oil in the glass dish line up along the field lines, giving a visible pattern for each electrode arrangement.

Which electrodes are supplied?
Two wire point electrodes and two T-shaped electrodes, which connect through two 4 mm socket terminals on insulated pillars.

What else is needed to run the demonstration?
An insulating oil such as castor oil, fine particles such as semolina, and a current-limited high-voltage supply. These are not listed with the apparatus and should be ordered or sourced separately.

How does it differ from the Electric Field Apparatus?
Both use a 90 mm dish on a transparent base. The other apparatus is listed with six electrodes including two rings, thumbscrew fine adjustment and use with a current-limited EHT supply; this one has two point and two T-shaped electrodes on insulated pillars.

Can the pattern be shown to a whole class?
Yes. The transparent Perspex base and glass dish let light pass through, so the pattern can be projected from below or captured with a camera above the dish.

Who manufactures the electric fields apparatus?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of electrostatics and general physics teaching apparatus, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The apparatus is built at JLab’s own works rather than bought in, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy straight from the factory, each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders and spares are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Sri Lanka in South Asia, Sudan in North Africa, Turkey in the Middle East, Latvia in Northern Europe and Ethiopia in East Africa. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.
