Electronic Timer with Photogates (code EL-PL-13605) is a motion apparatus for timing a ball on an inclined plane. Reading the Three Interval Times
Four photogates split the track into three sections, and the display gives the time the ball takes to cross each one. Set the angle on the graduated base, let the ball go at the top and compare the times: the ball gathers speed down the slope, so a later section of the same length is crossed in less time. Dividing each section length by its time gives an average speed, and the rise in speed from one section to the next shows the acceleration. A repeat at a steeper setting of the base shows the acceleration growing with the angle.
