Emissivity Measurement Apparatus

Product Code : EL-EMA-7377
Jlab Export is a leading Emissivity Measurement Apparatus Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Emissivity Measurement Apparatus (code EL-EMA-7377) is a radiation set-up that finds the emissivity of a test plate by comparing it with an identical plate whose surface is blackened. Each plate is a mica heater sandwiched between two circular plates and fed from its own variac, and both stand on brackets inside a wooden enclosure with one glass side. The two-plate apparatus is made in Ambala, India, by JLab.

How the Two Plates Are Compared

The two variacs are adjusted until the test plate and the black plate settle at the same temperature. Because the plates match in material, size and temperature, they lose the same heat by convection, and any difference in electrical input, read on the digital voltmeter and ammeter, is the difference in radiation. Treating the blackened plate as a black body (ε = 1), its extra input is Wb − Wp = (1 − εp) σ A (T⁴ − Ta⁴), so εp = 1 − (Wb − Wp) / [σ A (T⁴ − Ta⁴)]. Here T and Ta are the plate and surrounding temperatures in kelvin, A is the radiating area of one plate and σ is the Stefan-Boltzmann constant.

Emissivity Against Absolute Temperature

Repeating the balance at higher variac settings gives εp at several plate temperatures. Plotting it against absolute temperature, one of the two experiments, shows how the emissivity of the test surface changes as it gets hotter. The wooden enclosure and its glass side keep the surrounding air steady between readings, so the convection losses of the two plates stay equal.
