What Is a Filter Pump Used For?
A laboratory filter pump, also called a water aspirator, is fitted to a water tap: water rushing through its narrow jet draws air out through the side arm and creates suction. Joined by thick-walled tubing to a Buchner flask, that suction pulls liquid quickly through the filter paper in a Buchner funnel and leaves a well-drained solid behind — the usual way to collect crystals after recrystallisation or to separate a precipitate.
