Fold Model (Demo Model) (code EL-GM-10675) is a geology demonstration model that shows the position of the Earth’s crust relative to the asthenosphere and demonstrates how folding transforms the crust into its basic forms. Teachers use it at the front of a geography or earth science class. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Fold Model Used For?
Folding happens when compression squeezes layers of rock in the crust and bends them into upfolds (anticlines) and downfolds (synclines); on a large scale it raises fold mountains such as the Himalayas and the Alps. The model also places the crust in relation to the asthenosphere, the weak, partly plastic layer of the upper mantle over which the rigid lithospheric plates move; the movement of those plates supplies the compression that causes folding. Seeing both on one model helps when fold mountains are introduced in NCERT class 6 geography and when class 11 physical geography covers the Earth’s interior and endogenic processes such as folding. It is equally useful in college geology and geography teaching.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the fold model show?
It represents where the Earth’s crust sits relative to the asthenosphere, and it demonstrates the folding transformation and the basic forms the crust takes.
Is it meant for students or for the teacher?
It is listed as a demonstration model, so it is intended for a teacher to show to the class rather than as an individual student kit.
What are its size and material?
The listing does not give them. Ask JLab to state the dimensions and material in your quotation.
Who makes the fold model?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, manufactures it at its Ambala works in Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of geography and earth science teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and operating from Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The fold model is produced in JLab’s own works and not resold from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy from the source, every model is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders come back to the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide with buyers in every region, for example Bulgaria in Eastern Europe, Tanzania in East Africa, DR Congo in Central Africa, Austria in Western Europe and Ghana in West Africa. Tender buyers can see the JLab lab tenders page.
