What Is the Fraction Pattern Block Used For?
In pattern-block fraction work the hexagon is usually taken as one whole, and the standard shapes then show halves, thirds and sixths of it. These two shapes fill the gaps: the brown pieces add quarters and the purple pieces add twelfths. With them, students can show that three twelfths make a quarter, compare a quarter with a third, and see why twelfths act as a common denominator — a third and a quarter together, for example, make seven twelfths. The set fits the fractions topics of upper-primary and middle-school maths and gives teachers who already own pattern blocks a simple way to extend them.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of add-on sets, usually one for each pattern block set in use.
- Pattern blocks — if you do not yet have a set, Pattern Block Plastic or the Pattern Block Activity Pack are separate items that can go on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is in the Fraction Pattern Block set?
30 brown pieces that represent 1/4 and 60 purple pieces that represent 1/12 — two shapes in all.
Do I need pattern blocks to use it?
Yes. The two shapes are designed to be added to any set of plastic pattern blocks; the blocks themselves are a separate item.
How is it different from Fraction From Pattern Block?
Fraction From Pattern Block is a larger set of pattern-block pieces in several colours for fraction activities. This set adds just two shapes to the pattern blocks you already have.
Who manufactures the Fraction Pattern Block?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of maths lab equipment and science teaching aids in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The fraction pieces are produced at JLab’s own works instead of being bought from a trader, so schools, dealers and importers buy them factory-direct and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab ships to buyers worldwide, in every region — for example Zimbabwe in East Africa, Poland in Eastern Europe, Brunei in Southeast Asia, Qatar in the Middle East and Libya in North Africa. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.
