What Is the Functional Eye Model Used For?
Defects of vision are part of the class 10 science chapter on the human eye. In short sight the image of a distant object forms in front of the retina and a concave (diverging) lens corrects it; in far sight the image of a near object forms behind the retina and a convex (converging) lens corrects it. A model that actually forms an image lets students see where it falls instead of relying only on ray diagrams.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the model have a flexible lens?
Because the living eye focuses by changing the shape of its lens: the ciliary muscles alter its curvature for near and distant objects (accommodation). A flexible lens lets the model bring an image into focus on the retina.
