What Is the Heart with Artery Blockage Model Used For?
The heart muscle gets its own blood supply from the coronary arteries, which branch off the aorta just above the heart. When one of these arteries is narrowed by fatty plaque (atherosclerosis) or closed by a clot, the muscle beyond the blockage receives too little oxygen. A partial blockage can cause chest pain (angina) on exertion; a complete one causes a heart attack, in which that part of the muscle dies.
