Iron Rod

Product Code : EL-ELA-5359
Jlab Export is a leading Iron Rod Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Iron Rod (code EL-ELA-5359) is a short iron rod, listed at 6.25 mm x 10 cm, for magnetism demonstrations in school and college physics. It is readily magnetised and demagnetised, so it picks up magnetism quickly near a magnet or inside a current-carrying coil and loses it again when the magnet or current is removed. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Iron Rod Used For?

Because it magnetises and demagnetises easily, the rod shows temporary (induced) magnetism. Hold one end near a bar magnet and the other end will pick up pins or iron filings; take the magnet away and most of them drop off. Wind insulated wire around the rod and connect a cell, and it becomes the core of a simple electromagnet that attracts pins only while current flows — the electromagnet activity in the class 10 science chapter on magnetic effects of electric current. Comparing it with a steel rod, which keeps much of its magnetism, explains why permanent magnets are made of hard magnetic materials while electromagnet cores use soft iron.

Store the rod dry to prevent rust, and keep it away from strong magnets when not in use so it starts each lesson unmagnetised.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the iron rod?
It is listed as 6.25 mm x 10 cm. Ask JLab if you need a different length or diameter for your coils.

Why does it need to magnetise and demagnetise easily?
So it works as a temporary magnet: it becomes magnetic near a magnet or inside a coil carrying current and loses that magnetism when the field is removed, which is what an electromagnet core needs.

Who manufactures this iron rod?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of physics lab instruments in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The rods are cut and finished at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, and schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy them factory-direct. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — Taiwan in East Asia, Denmark in Northern Europe, Cyprus in Southern Europe, Tajikistan in Central Asia and Laos in Southeast Asia are examples. See the JLab lab tenders page for tenders.
