Isosceles Prism

Product Code : EL-GLE-8534
Jlab Export is a leading Isosceles Prism Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Isosceles Prism (code EL-GLE-8534) is a polished Perspex prism, 70 x 70 mm, that lets students follow light as it reflects, refracts and splits through a prism in school and college optics practicals. Perspex (acrylic) is lighter than glass and less likely to shatter if a prism is dropped on the bench. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Isosceles Prism Used For?

A prism bends a ray of light twice, once as it enters and again as it leaves, and because each colour bends by a slightly different amount, a narrow beam of white light spreads into a spectrum. Light that meets an inside face at a steep enough angle is reflected back into the prism instead of passing out, which is total internal reflection. Tracing the rays on paper lets students measure the angle of deviation. The prism is used for the class 10 practical on the path of a ray of light through a prism, ray optics in class 12 physics and college optics labs.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — for example one prism per student or per pair.
  • Light source — ray boxes are separate items that can be quoted on the same enquiry.
  • Other optics blocks — other prisms and semicircular blocks are also separate items.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the isosceles prism made of, and how big is it?
Polished Perspex, in a size of 70 x 70 mm.

What can be demonstrated with it?
Reflection, refraction and the splitting of white light into colours, including total internal reflection and the deviation of a ray.

How does it differ from the JLab Rectangular Prism?
Both are polished Perspex. The Rectangular Prism is rectangular and is described for demonstrating critical angles; this prism is isosceles.

What information is needed for an export quotation?
The number of prisms, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), packing or labelling needs and any tender reference.

Who manufactures the isosceles prism?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of optics and other physics lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The prism is made at JLab’s own works, not bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Samoa in Oceania, Bhutan in South Asia, Malawi in East Africa, Mexico in North America and Egypt in North Africa. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.

Prisms, Blocks and Ray Boxes

  • Rectangular Prism — a polished Perspex prism for demonstrating critical angles.
  • Prism Acrylic — clear acrylic prisms with polished surfaces, in equilateral and right-angle forms.
  • Prism Glass — clear glass prisms in right-angle and equilateral forms.
  • Semi Circular Acrylic Block — a clear acrylic block with all faces polished.
  • Ray Box — a lamp house that gives single or multiple rays for elementary optics.
