What Is the Marie Curie Chart Used For?

Born in Warsaw and trained as a scientist in Paris, Marie Curie took up Henri Becquerel’s discovery of uranium rays and proposed that the radiation came from within the atoms themselves. Working with her husband Pierre, she discovered two new elements — polonium, named after her native Poland, and radium. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and is still the only person to have won Nobel Prizes in two different sciences, physics and chemistry. During the First World War she also organised mobile X-ray units to help army surgeons.

Teachers hang the chart beside lessons on radioactivity, atomic structure and the periodic table in senior school physics and chemistry and in college physics departments, and it works equally well on a library wall or in a display on women in science. The listing describes the chart’s size and finish but not its printed text, so ask JLab for a preview image if you want to check the content before ordering.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Language — English or Hindi, for each chart.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; list any other scientist charts you want on the same quotation.
  • Radioactivity teaching aids — a radioactivity wall chart or a Geiger-Muller tube, if they should be quoted together.
  • Delivery — destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, and any tender reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Marie Curie known for?
Discovering polonium and radium with Pierre Curie, coining the term radioactivity, and becoming the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize — she later won a second, in chemistry.

Which lessons is the chart suited to?
Radioactivity, atomic structure and the periodic table in senior school physics and chemistry, plus college physics; it also suits library and science-exhibition displays.

What size is it and how is it finished?
It is 70 x 100 cm, printed in full colour, laminated on both sides with thick plastic film and fitted with plastic rollers for hanging.

Can I order it in Hindi?
Yes. The chart is available in English and Hindi; state the language for each chart in your enquiry.

Does the listing show the chart’s text?
No. It gives the size, colours, lamination, rollers and languages only, so ask JLab for a preview image before you order.

Who supplies the Marie Curie Chart?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd of Ambala, Haryana, India — supplies the chart and quotes for it directly.

Supplier

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. Alongside the physics and chemistry lab equipment it produces, JLab supplies printed teaching charts such as this life sketch, so a school can add wall charts to an apparatus order on one quotation. Every chart is visually inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and reaches buyers in every region — Mongolia in East Asia, the USA in North America, Greece in Southern Europe, South Africa in Southern Africa and Nepal in South Asia among them. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.

Radioactivity Teaching Resources

  • Radioactivity — a printed physics wall chart on the spontaneous emission of radiation from unstable atomic nuclei.
  • Geiger Muller Tube — a halogen-quenched metal tube with a thin end window for detecting alpha, beta and gamma radiation.
  • Periodic Table Chart — a plastic-coated periodic table on which students can find polonium and radium.
  • Ernest Rutherford Chart — the physicist who discovered the atomic nucleus, from the same series.
  • Albert Einstein Chart — the physicist of relativity and the photoelectric effect, also in the series.
