What Is the Ernest Rutherford Chart Used For?

Rutherford left New Zealand to research in Canada and England. He named the alpha and beta rays given off by radioactive substances and, with Frederick Soddy, showed that radioactive decay turns one element into another — work that earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In the famous gold-foil experiments carried out under his direction by Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden, a few alpha particles bounced back sharply; Rutherford concluded that an atom’s positive charge and almost all its mass sit in a tiny central nucleus. He later achieved the first artificial transmutation of an element and identified the proton, and the element rutherfordium honours him.

His nuclear model is taught in the class 9 science chapter on the structure of the atom, again in class 11 chemistry, and through the alpha-particle scattering experiment in class 12 physics, so the chart earns its place in both physics and chemistry rooms and in college modern physics. The listing gives the format but not the printed text; ask JLab for a preview image to check it.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Language — English or Hindi.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; name any other scientist charts to include in the quotation.
  • Atomic physics items — a radioactivity chart or a Geiger-Muller tube, if they should be quoted together.
  • Delivery — destination country and port or city, delivery terms and any tender reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

What did Ernest Rutherford discover?
The atomic nucleus, from alpha-particle scattering through gold foil; he also named alpha and beta rays, showed that radioactive decay changes one element into another, and identified the proton.

Which lessons does this chart support?
Structure of the atom in class 9 science and class 11 chemistry, and the alpha-particle scattering experiment in class 12 physics, as well as college atomic and nuclear physics.

What size and finish is it?
70 x 100 cm, full colour, laminated on both sides with thick plastic film, with plastic rollers for hanging.

Is there a Hindi version?
Yes. The chart comes in English and Hindi; specify the language in your enquiry.

Can I see the chart before buying?
Ask JLab for a preview image — the listing describes the format, not the printed text.
