What Is the Meghnad Saha Chart Used For?
Saha studied at Presidency College in Calcutta, where J. C. Bose was among his teachers and S. N. Bose a classmate; together the two young physicists translated Einstein’s papers on relativity into English. His thermal ionisation equation, now known as the Saha equation, relates how strongly the atoms of a hot gas are ionised to its temperature and pressure. Astronomers used it to read the spectra of stars and to link the spectral classes of stars to their surface temperatures. Saha later founded the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kolkata, which now carries his name, and chaired the committee that reformed India’s national calendar.
The chart gives a face and a story to lessons on stars, light and atomic structure in senior school physics, to college astrophysics and modern physics courses, and to displays on Indian scientists in a science room or library. Its printed text is not reproduced in the listing, so JLab can send a preview image before you order.
What to Specify When Ordering

- Shipping details — destination country, port or city, preferred delivery terms and any tender reference.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Saha equation?
It is Meghnad Saha’s thermal ionisation equation, which links the degree of ionisation of a hot gas to its temperature and pressure; it became a basic tool for interpreting the spectra of stars.
Who is the chart for?
Senior school physics classes studying stars and atoms, college physics and astrophysics departments, astronomy clubs, and libraries that display Indian scientists.
How big is the chart?
70 x 100 cm, printed in full colour, with both sides laminated in thick plastic film and plastic rollers fitted for hanging.
Which languages are available?
English and Hindi. Mention the language you need when you ask for a quotation.
