What Is the Optical Square Used For?

In chain surveying the main survey lines are measured with a chain, and features on either side — a wall corner, a tree, a boundary stone — are fixed by offsets, the distances measured at right angles from the chain line to each feature. An optical square lets the surveyor establish that right angle by sight, so the point on the chain line from which each offset is measured can be found directly. It is used in surveying practicals at ITI, polytechnic and college level, and in a school maths or geography lab it gives perpendicular lines a practical, outdoor use.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — for example one instrument per survey group.
  • Other surveying items from the range, such as ranging rods or a cross staff, for the same quotation.
  • Destination country and delivery terms for an export order.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of laboratory, maths lab and surveying teaching equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The optical square is made in JLab’s own works instead of being bought from a trader, so colleges, schools, dealers and importers buy from the maker, each instrument is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders are handled by the same works. Its registrations include CIN U29309HR2017PTC069123 and MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 (manufacturing enterprise). JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Poland in Eastern Europe, Latvia in Northern Europe, Egypt in North Africa, Ethiopia in East Africa and Vietnam in Southeast Asia. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
