Pentominoes are a classic maths manipulative for spatial reasoning. There are 12 different ways to join five squares edge to edge (counting turned or flipped copies as the same shape), so a pentomino set lets students explore how shapes can be turned and flipped, which pieces are reflections of each other, and how they fit together to fill a grid.
