How Does a Residual Current Device Work?
An RCD compares the current flowing out through the live conductor with the current returning through neutral. In a healthy circuit the two are equal; if some current leaks to earth — through damaged insulation or through a person touching a faulty appliance — the difference is detected and the device trips once it reaches the rated sensitivity. An RCCB responds to this residual current rather than to overload, which is why it is normally installed alongside circuit breakers that handle overcurrent.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the sensitivity rating mean?
It is the residual (earth-leakage) current at which the device is rated to trip. At this sensitivity the RCCB can serve as supplementary protection against electric shock if other protective devices fail.
How quickly does it trip?
In 0.1 second or less.
Does it need an earth connection?
Yes. It is meant to be connected to a proper earthing pole.
Can it be used to isolate a circuit?
Yes. With its ON-OFF indicating device, it is considered suitable for the isolation function.
Is an RCD the same as an RCCB?
RCD is the general name for residual current devices; an RCCB, as this model is, is a residual current device built as a circuit breaker.
What should an export enquiry include?
The quantity, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms, such as FOB or CIF, and the tender reference if there is one.
Who manufactures this RCD?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd), at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of laboratory, electronics and electrical equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The RCD is produced in JLab’s own works rather than purchased from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy from the maker and return to it for repeat orders. Its company identifiers are GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and Legal Entity Identifier 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example South Korea in East Asia, Angola in Central Africa, Bolivia in South America, Gambia in West Africa and Kenya in East Africa.
