Keeping the Stopper from Sticking
A glass stopper can seize in the neck when the bottle and the stopper are at different temperatures: once the difference goes above 30 °C, the stopper may stick. Let a warm bottle cool to room temperature before closing it. Strong alkalis such as sodium hydroxide solution attack ground glass and can fuse a stopper in place, so laboratories usually keep them in bottles with rubber or plastic closures instead.
Each capacity has its own neck size, from 29/22 on the 100 ml bottle to 60/46 on the 1000 ml bottle, so keep every stopper with the bottle it was supplied with.
