What Is Litmus Paper Used For?
Litmus is a natural dye that changes colour with acidity. Paper soaked in it gives the simplest acid–base test in chemistry: an acid turns blue litmus red, a base turns red litmus blue, and a neutral solution leaves both colours unchanged. Students meet it in class 7 and class 10 science lessons on acids, bases and salts, where household substances such as lemon juice, vinegar, soap solution and baking soda are tested, and it remains a routine check in class 11 and class 12 chemistry practicals and college labs. Litmus shows only whether a solution is acidic or basic; pH paper is used when an approximate pH value is needed.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Colour — red litmus, blue litmus, or both.
- Quantity — the number of vials needed for your class sets and stock.
- Other indicators — litmus solution and pH indicator paper are separate items that can be quoted on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does litmus paper show an acid or a base?
An acid turns blue litmus paper red and a base turns red litmus paper blue. If neither colour changes, the solution is neutral.
Which colours of litmus paper does this product cover?
Both red and blue litmus paper, so acids and bases can each be confirmed.
How is it packed?
In resealable vials, which can be closed again after use to keep the paper dry between practicals.
What should an export enquiry include?
The quantity and colours, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling needs and a tender reference if one applies.
Who manufactures this litmus paper?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of chemistry lab equipment and laboratory supplies in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The litmus paper is produced at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order it factory-direct, every pack is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Uganda in East Africa, France in Western Europe, Gabon in Central Africa, Slovenia in Southern Europe and Botswana in Southern Africa. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
