Pick silica for rapid heating and cooling and capacities up to 200 ml; the Gooch crucible is for filtering and drying precipitates.
What Is the Silica Crucible Used For?
A crucible holds a solid while it is strongly heated over a burner or in a muffle furnace: igniting a precipitate to constant mass in gravimetric analysis, finding the ash or loss on ignition of a food, soil or pharmaceutical sample, or driving off the water of crystallisation from a hydrated salt in a chemistry practical. Silica expands very little when heated, so it copes with rapid heating and cooling better than most ceramics. It is attacked by hydrofluoric acid, hot phosphoric acid and molten alkalis or alkali carbonates, so those fusions call for a different crucible material.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Capacity and quantity — how many crucibles of each size you need.
- Heating accessories — pipe clay triangles, crucible tongs and a desiccator are separate items that can be quoted on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What capacities does the silica crucible come in?
Seven: 15, 25, 50, 80, 100, 150 and 200 ml, all in the low form with a lid.
Which substances attack a silica crucible?
Hydrofluoric acid, hot phosphoric acid and molten alkalis or alkali carbonates.
What does an export quotation need?
Capacities and quantities, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs and any tender reference.
Who manufactures the silica crucible?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a chemistry and general lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. Its silica crucibles are made at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, testing labs, dealers and importers buy factory-direct and can reorder any capacity from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Benin in West Africa, Bhutan in South Asia, Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia, Zimbabwe in East Africa and Gabon in Central Africa. Tender buyers can refer to the JLab lab tenders page.
Crucible Accessories
- Pipe Clay Triangle — pipe-clay tubes on a wire frame that hold a crucible over a Bunsen burner flame.
