Handling Hot Porcelain
The bow joins the two arms like a spring, so the jaws open by themselves when the grip is relaxed and close only as far as the hand squeezes. Take hold of a crucible on the outside of its wall rather than across the open top, and lift a lid by its knob. At 150 mm the tongs are short, so approach a hot item from the side to keep the hand out of the rising heat, and let the jaws cool before laying the tongs on a plastic surface.
