What Is the Water Life Slide Set Used For?
A drop of pond water holds a whole community, and this set lets a class meet its members one at a time: producers such as Spirogyra, Volvox, desmids and diatoms; single-celled consumers such as Paramecium and Euglena (which also has chloroplasts); and small animals such as Hydra, the flatworm Planaria and the water flea Daphnia, whose transparent body shows its internal organs. The Elodea or Hydrilla leaf, only a few cells thick, shows plant cells and chloroplasts clearly, and the bacteria smear gives the three basic bacterial shapes.
