What Is the Zinc Electrode Rod Used For?

Zinc stands high in the reactivity series and gives up electrons readily. Placed in an electrolyte with a less reactive metal such as copper, the zinc rod becomes the negative electrode of a simple voltaic cell and is slowly consumed as the cell delivers current — the idea behind the Daniell cell in class 12 electrochemistry. In class 10 lessons on metals and the reactivity series it can also show zinc displacing copper from copper sulphate solution.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of rods — for example one for each cell set-up on the bench.
  • Other electrodes or electrode holders to quote on the same enquiry.
  • Delivery country and city, and your delivery terms for an export order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the Zinc Electrode Rod?
It is a solid zinc rod of 140 x 6 mm, fitted with a terminal for connecting it to the circuit.

Which electrode does zinc form in a zinc–copper cell?
The negative electrode, or anode. Zinc is more reactive than copper, so it is oxidised and releases electrons, which flow from the zinc rod through the external circuit to the copper electrode.

How is it different from the JLab Iron Electrode Rod?
Both are solid 140 x 6 mm rods with a terminal; the difference is the metal. Zinc is more reactive than iron, so the two rods can be compared or paired in reactivity and cell experiments.

What information is needed for an export quotation?
Please give the quantity, the destination country and port or city, your delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), packing or labelling needs, and any tender reference.

Who manufactures the Zinc Electrode Rod?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a science lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The zinc rods are made at JLab’s own works, not bought in from a trader, so buyers order factory-direct, each rod is examined by eye before dispatch, and repeat orders come from the manufacturer. The company holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise and Importer-Exporter Code 3317504552. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tajikistan in Central Asia, Oman in the Middle East, France in Western Europe, Mongolia in East Asia and Colombia in South America.
