The beehive shelf is the small dome that turns a pneumatic trough into a gas-collection station. It stands in the water-filled trough with a water-filled gas jar inverted on top; the delivery tube from the reaction flask goes in through the side opening, and the gas bubbles up through the hole in the top and pushes the water out of the jar.
