Kipp's Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India

Kipp's Apparatus

Product Code : EL-ELA-5361
Jlab Export is a leading Kipp's Apparatus Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Kipp's Apparatus (code EL-ELA-5361) is a polyethylene gas generator for producing hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) on demand in chemistry labs. Dilute acid poured through the thistle funnel at the top reacts with a metal sulphide in the base, and the gas collects in the middle dome until it is drawn off through a leakproof stopcock with a self-lubricating PTFE plug. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Kipp's Generators?

ModelMaterialSize as listedOther listed details
This apparatus (EL-ELA-5361)Polyethylene250, 500 or 1000 (see note above)Thistle funnel top; PTFE-plug stopcock; capped residual outlet in the base
Kipps Gas GeneratorBorosilicate glass1000 mlThree chambers; acid reservoir with stopper; safety funnel; rubber separator keeps the solid in the middle bulb
Kipp's Apparatus (Complete Set)Borosilicate glass500 mlThree stacked cylinders; stopcock on the middle cylinder

Choose this polyethylene model if you prefer a plastic generator with a capped drain in the base; the two glass generators suit labs that want transparent borosilicate glass, in the sizes stated on their own pages.

What Is the Kipp's Apparatus Used For?

A Kipp's apparatus delivers a gas only when it is needed. Opening the stopcock lets acid from the top run down into contact with the solid in the base, and gas is produced; closing it traps the gas, whose pressure pushes the acid back away from the solid so the reaction stops. In school and college chemistry labs it is the traditional source of hydrogen sulphide for salt analysis in class 11 and class 12 chemistry practicals, where the gas is passed through test solutions to precipitate group II and group IV cations as sulphides.

Hydrogen sulphide is toxic and has a strong rotten-egg smell, so run the apparatus in a fume cupboard or a well-ventilated area and close the stopcock as soon as the test is done. Polyethylene does not shatter like glass and resists dilute acids. When the acid is spent, drain the base through the residual outlet, rinse it and recharge with fresh solid and acid.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Size — 250, 500 or 1000; confirm the unit and capacity with JLab, as the listing gives “mm”.
  • Material — this polyethylene model, or one of the borosilicate glass generators compared above.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; add thistle funnels or gas jars to the same enquiry if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which gas does this Kipp's apparatus produce?
Hydrogen sulphide, from the reaction of dilute acid with a metal sulphide placed in the base. The gas collects in the middle dome and is drawn off through the stopcock.

What sizes are available?
Three sizes listed as 250, 500 and 1000 with the unit “mm”. A matching JLab listing gives the same three sizes as ml capacities, so confirm the capacity you need when you ask for a quote.

How is it cleaned?
The base has a residual outlet with a cap, so spent acid can be drained and the base rinsed without dismantling the apparatus.

How does it differ from the glass Kipp's generators?
This one is polyethylene with a PTFE-plug stopcock and a capped drain. The Kipps Gas Generator is borosilicate glass, 1000 ml, with a safety funnel and rubber separator; the Kipp's Apparatus (Complete Set) is borosilicate glass, 500 ml.

What information does an export quotation need?
The size and quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling requirements, and a tender reference if applicable.

Who manufactures this Kipp's apparatus?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a chemistry lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This apparatus comes from JLab’s own works rather than a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers deal directly with the maker; each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and replacement parts and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — South Korea in East Asia, the USA in North America, Congo in Central Africa, Malta in Southern Europe and the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe, for example. Tender buyers can see the JLab lab tenders page.
