How Does It Compare with Other JLab Electric Bells?

ModelVoltageOther listed details
This bell (EL-SLE-4796)3–12 V or 3–4.5 V AC/DC modelsDome gong about 75 mm; detachable Bakelite cover; metal thread terminals; silver contacts
Electric Bell3–4.5 V75 mm gong; 4 mm plugs for connection; detachable cover; power supply required
Electric Bell Buzzer4–6 V AC/DCMiniature type

Choose this bell when you want a choice of voltage range and screw terminals for wiring with bare leads. The other electric bell connects with 4 mm plugs, and the buzzer is the compact option when a gong is not needed.

What Is the Electric Bell Used For?

The electric bell is the standard classroom example of an electromagnet at work, used in school lessons on the magnetic effect of electric current (for example class 10 science) and in simple circuit practicals. When the circuit is closed, current flows through the coil and magnetises it; the soft-iron armature is pulled in and its hammer strikes the gong. That movement opens the contact, the coil loses its magnetism, the spring returns the armature and the contact closes again, so the cycle repeats and the bell rings for as long as the switch is held. Removing the detachable cover lets students watch the make-and-break action, and the bell is also a ready alarm or signal in student projects.

Run the bell from cells or a low-voltage supply within the range of the model you order, never from mains electricity. Keep the contacts clean and dry; silver is used for contacts because it conducts electricity very well.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Voltage model — 3 to 12 V AC/DC or 3 to 4.5 V AC/DC, to match your cells or lab power supply.
  • Quantity — minimum 10 units; one per practical group is common.
  • Circuit parts — plug keys, switches and connecting leads can be quoted in the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What voltage does this electric bell need?
It comes in two model ranges: 3 to 12 V AC/DC, and 3 to 4.5 V AC/DC. State which one you need when you order.

How big is the gong?
The dome gong is approximately 75 mm in diameter.

Can students see how the bell works?
Yes. The cover is detachable, so the coil, armature, hammer and contact can be seen while the bell rings.

How is it connected?
Through metal thread terminals, which take bare wire ends or leads with suitable connectors.

What information is needed for an export quote?
Quantity and voltage model, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling instructions and any tender reference.

Who makes this electric bell?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — manufactures it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of physics lab instruments for schools and colleges, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The electric bell is made in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, each bell is inspected visually before it ships, and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. The company’s GSTIN is 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and its Legal Entity Identifier is 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Germany in Western Europe, Liberia in West Africa, Chad in Central Africa, Malaysia in Southeast Asia and Chile in South America.
