BPSK/DPSK & DEPSK Modulation and Demodulation Kit (code EL-PET-10217) is a digital communication training kit for three forms of binary phase shift keying: plain BPSK, differential PSK (DPSK) and differentially encoded PSK (DEPSK). Its 500 kHz carrier is available at 0° and 180°. JLab, the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, builds it in Ambala, India.

What Is the BPSK/DPSK & DEPSK Kit Used For?

Phase shift keying carries each bit as a phase of the carrier, and it is the basis of many digital radio and modem links. With the plain and the two differential forms on one kit, students can send the same DIP-switch pattern through each and compare the recovered data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between BPSK, DEPSK and DPSK?
In BPSK each bit sets the carrier phase directly, so the receiver needs an exact phase reference. DEPSK differentially encodes the data first, so a reference that is upside down no longer inverts the output. DPSK goes further and detects each bit by comparing its phase with that of the previous bit.

Why does the demodulator use a squaring loop?
Squaring a BPSK signal removes the phase reversals and leaves a component at twice the carrier frequency, which is divided by two to rebuild the carrier. The rebuilt carrier can lock in either of two phases, and that ambiguity is what differential encoding resolves.

How is the test data set?
With an 8-way DIP switch that sets an 8-bit NRZ-L pattern, which the kit can also send in differentially encoded form.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a communication-trainer and laboratory equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. JLab produces this kit in its own works rather than reselling it, so colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, with repeat orders and spares handled by the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Hungary in Eastern Europe, Tonga in Oceania, Croatia in Southern Europe, Switzerland in Western Europe and Canada in North America.
