What Is the Antenna Trainer Used For?
It is used to measure how antennas radiate and how well they are matched to their feed. Turning an antenna through a full circle and noting the received level at each angle gives its polar radiation pattern, from which the beamwidth, nulls and front-to-back ratio can be read, and with twenty-one antenna types the patterns of different designs can be compared directly. The coupler side of the trainer deals with matching, showing how much power reaches the antenna and how much comes back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the receiving antenna a folded dipole with a reflector?
A folded dipole has a wider bandwidth than a plain half-wave dipole and about four times its feed impedance, and the reflector behind it makes reception directional, favouring signals arriving from the front.
What does the forward and reverse coupler measure?
It samples the power travelling towards the antenna and the power reflected back from it. The digital meter shows both readings, and the smaller the reverse reading compared with the forward one, the better the antenna is matched.
What is the slider-type matching stub for?
A matching stub is a short section of transmission line whose position along the feed is adjusted to cancel the reactive part of the antenna’s impedance. Sliding it to the right point reduces the reflected power seen on the reverse reading.
What should an export enquiry include?
The number of trainers, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling requirements and the tender reference where one applies.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of electronics trainers and laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 with its base on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The company is registered under CIN U29309HR2017PTC069123 and holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise. The Antenna Trainer is produced in JLab’s own works, not resold from a trader, so colleges, dealers and importers order it and any repeat units directly from the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Mexico in North America, Mozambique in East Africa, Afghanistan in South Asia, Estonia in Northern Europe and Peru in South America. See the JLab lab tenders page for tender information.
