Plotting Distance Against Time
Because its speed does not change, the car makes a clean first experiment in kinematics. Mark the bench or floor at regular distances, time the car past each mark and plot distance against time: the points fall on a straight line whose slope is the car’s speed, and the velocity-time graph for the same run is a horizontal line. Letting it reach a wall and flip adds a change of direction at the same speed, so the velocity reverses sign while the speed stays constant, which helps students keep the two quantities apart.
