What Is a Continuous Well Logger Used For?

Borehole logging lowers probes down a drilled hole on a cable and records how the properties of the surrounding rock and water change with depth, giving a continuous log rather than a few spot samples. With several probe types on one logger, a hydrogeologist can compare logs to pick out water-bearing zones and changes in rock type, which helps when deciding where to place well screens. Because the logger is portable and works from a notebook PC, the logs can be viewed at the well head and printed later at the scale needed for a report.

It is used in groundwater development, mineral exploration drilling and geotechnical investigations, and by university geology departments for borehole geophysics.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of loggers — for example one per drilling or survey team.
  • Any surface instruments, such as resistivity meters or water level indicators, to quote on the same enquiry.
  • Destination country and city, and your delivery terms.
