What Is the Leopold Maneuvers Delivery Model Used For?
In a normal vertex birth the baby turns and bends in a fixed order to fit the changing shape of the pelvis: flexion lets the smallest diameter of the head lead, and internal rotation lines the head up with the pelvic outlet. Seeing each step in sequence helps ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nursing and medical students learn the order before they meet it on a labour ward. It is a teaching model, not a medical device.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is restitution in the mechanism of labour?
The turn the head makes just after it is born, back into line with the baby’s shoulders, before external rotation follows.
