Dip Needle Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India

Dip Needle

Product Code : EL-SLE-5789
Jlab Export is a leading Dip Needle Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Dip Needle (code EL-SLE-5789) is a magnetic instrument for measuring the angle of dip — the angle the Earth’s magnetic field makes with the horizontal — in school and college physics labs. Its cobalt steel needle is supported on a horizontal axis in adjustable cone bearings and is balanced, and the reading is taken on a 180° arc graduated in degrees above a non-magnetized base. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Dip Instruments?

InstrumentNeedle and bearingScale and base as listed
This dip needle (EL-SLE-5789)Cobalt steel needle on a horizontal axis in adjustable cone bearingsRotatable graduated scale marked in quadrants; 180° arc in degrees; non-magnetized base
Dip Needle (physics lab range)Cobalt steel needleGraduated quadrant, fully rotatable on a metal base
Dip CircleStrongly magnetised cobalt steel needle on agate knife edges, with a V clampAluminium case, spirit level, tripod stand with three levelling screws
Dip Circle ApparatusSteel needle on jewelled bearings, plus a spare un-magnetized needleCircular metal scale and anti-parallax mirror rotatable about a vertical axis; aluminium base marked in quadrants

Choose this dip needle for straightforward student measurement of dip with a balanced cobalt steel needle and a degree arc. The dip circles add levelling and clamping features (tripod and spirit level) or an anti-parallax mirror and a spare needle for more careful readings.

What Is the Dip Needle Used For?

A magnetic needle free to turn in a vertical plane settles along the Earth’s field, so the angle it makes with the horizontal is the angle of dip, or magnetic inclination. Dip is close to zero near the magnetic equator and becomes steep towards the magnetic poles, which is why the reading changes from place to place. The dip needle supports the Earth’s magnetism topic in class 12 physics (magnetism and matter), geography and earth-science lessons on the geomagnetic field, and college magnetism practicals.

For a reading, set the instrument on a level bench well away from magnets, steel furniture and current-carrying wires, turn it so that the needle swings in the magnetic meridian, and let it come to rest. Read both ends of the needle against the arc and take the mean, which reduces errors from slight imbalance or friction at the bearings. Handle the needle gently so the cone bearings stay true, and store the instrument away from strong magnets so the needle keeps its magnetism.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 dip needles.
  • Instrument type — this dip needle, or a dip circle with spirit level and levelling screws, if your practical requires them.
  • Companion items — plotting compasses or a deflection magnetometer for the same magnetism practical are separate items.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a dip needle measure?
The angle of dip — the angle between the Earth’s magnetic field and the horizontal at your location. The needle turns in a vertical plane and its angle is read on the 180° arc graduated in degrees.

What is the needle made of?
Cobalt steel. It is supported on a horizontal axis in adjustable cone bearings and is balanced so that only the magnetic field sets its angle.

Why must the needle be in the magnetic meridian?
Only in the vertical plane that contains the field direction does the needle show the true dip. In any other plane it stands steeper than the true angle, so turn the instrument until the needle lies in the meridian before reading.

How does it differ from the Dip Circle?
The Dip Circle is listed with an aluminium case, a needle on agate knife edges with a V clamp, a spirit level and a tripod stand with levelling screws. This dip needle is a simpler instrument with cone bearings, a degree arc and a non-magnetized base.

What details are needed for an export quotation?
The quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs, and any tender reference.

Who manufactures this dip needle?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of physics and school laboratory instruments in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The dip needle is assembled and balanced at JLab’s own works rather than bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers purchase factory-direct; each unit is visually inspected before dispatch and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Bangladesh in South Asia, Norway in Northern Europe, North Macedonia in Southern Europe, the Netherlands in Western Europe and Brazil in South America. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.

Earth’s Magnetism Apparatus

  • Dip Circle — a dip circle with spirit level and a tripod stand with levelling screws.
  • Dip Circle Apparatus — jewelled bearings, anti-parallax mirror and a spare un-magnetized needle.
  • Dip Needle Magnetism — a needle in a rotating non-magnetic frame with protractors and terminals.
  • Deflection Magnetometer — a removable compass box on a wooden base with a scale, for magnetic field measurements.
  • Magnetic Plotting Compass — for finding the field direction and tracing field lines.
