How Does It Compare with Other JLab Water Baths?

Water bathBody (as listed)Heating and top
This water bath (EL-SLE-5638)Cylindrical, thick aluminium sheet, 180 x 250 mm (height x diameter), two handlesHeated externally; set of concentric rings
Water Bath CopperHemispherical, copper sheet, two handlesHeated externally; set of concentric rings
Water Bath Single WallRectangular, stainless steel chamber, single wallBuilt-in electric heater with cut-out; 12 holes with concentric rings
Water Bath 6 HoleRectangular, double wall, stainless steel reservoir, insulatedLid with one large and six smaller holes

Choose this aluminium bath for simple bench heating over a burner, where one student pair works on one dish or flask; the copper bath is the traditional hemispherical alternative, and the electric rectangular baths suit labs that want many tubes heated at once without a flame.

What Is the Aluminium Water Bath Used For?

A water bath heats whatever sits in it evenly and never above the boiling point of water, which protects glassware from direct flame and stops solutions from spitting. Students stand it on a tripod and wire gauze over a Bunsen burner, choose the ring that fits their vessel, and use it to evaporate a salt solution slowly in an evaporating basin, to warm test tubes for food tests in biology, or to keep a flask at a steady gentle heat. For the class 10 starch test on a leaf, the water is brought to the boil, the burner is turned off, and the test tube of alcohol is then stood in the hot water, so the alcohol never meets a flame.

Keep the water level topped up and never heat the bath dry, as empty aluminium can distort or burn through over a flame. Lift it by the two handles only with a cloth or heat-resistant gloves, empty and dry it after use, and store it with the rings so none are lost.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 water baths; plan one per bench or student pair.
  • Heating set-up — add tripod stands, wire gauzes and Bunsen burners if your benches need them.
  • Electric option — if you prefer no flame, compare the electric single-wall water bath.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is this water bath?
It is cylindrical, 180 mm high and 250 mm in diameter, made from thick aluminium sheet with two handles.

Does it have a heater?
No heater is listed. It is heated externally, usually on a tripod and wire gauze over a Bunsen burner or on a hot plate.

What are the concentric rings for?
They form an adjustable top: removing rings widens the opening so that a beaker, flask or evaporating basin sits securely over the hot water.

How does it differ from the copper water bath?
Both have two handles and a set of concentric rings. This one is a cylinder of thick aluminium sheet with a stated size; the copper bath is hemispherical and made of copper sheet.

What should I send for an export quotation?
The quantity, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling requirements and a tender reference if relevant.

Who manufactures this water bath?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of school laboratory apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and situated on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The water bath is formed at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order directly from the manufacturer, each piece is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders come from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Ireland in Western Europe, Spain in Southern Europe, Hungary in Eastern Europe, Morocco in North Africa and Benin in West Africa. Tender buyers can check the JLab lab tenders page.

For the Heating Bench

  • Bunsen Burner — a nickel-plated gas burner with a rotatable air regulator.
  • Tripod Stand — triangular or round-top stands to hold the bath over the flame.
  • Wire Gauze, Metallic — iron gauze with a ceramic centre to spread the heat.
  • Evaporating Basin — a wide, shallow basin for evaporating solutions on the bath.
