How Does It Compare with the JLab Burner with Stopcock?
| Model | Gas control | Air control | Burner tube and base |
|---|---|---|---|
| This burner (EL-BL-11305) | No stopcock — gas is set at the bench tap | Air regulator (air port only) | Nickel plated, 12 mm diameter; painted cast iron base |
| Burner Bunsen with Stopcock | Stopcock fitted to control the gas | Rotatable air regulator | Nickel plated; mounted on a base |
Choose this model where every bench has its own gas tap and simple, robust burners are wanted; the stopcock version suits benches where the gas flow should be trimmed at the burner itself.
What Is a Bunsen Burner Used For?
Students use it to heat test tubes and boiling tubes, to keep a water bath hot — for example when a leaf is decolourised in alcohol for the starch test, the alcohol is warmed in a water bath, never over the open flame — and to sterilise an inoculating loop by heating it until it glows red in microbiology practicals. To light it, push the gas tubing onto the connector, close the air port, hold a lit match at the top of the tube and then open the bench tap; opening the air port turns the yellow luminous flame into a hotter blue one. Because there is no stopcock, always shut the gas at the tap, keep flammable liquids away and never leave a lit burner unattended.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Gas supply — state whether your lab uses LPG or piped natural gas so JLab can confirm the burner suits it.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
- Heating accessories — rubber gas pipe, tripod stands and wire gauzes can go in the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this burner have a gas stopcock?
No. Only the air supply port is adjustable, through the air regulator, and the gas is turned on and off at the bench tap. JLab lists a separate burner with a stopcock if you need gas control on the burner.
Which gas does it run on?
The listing does not name the gas. Tell JLab whether you use LPG or natural gas, and the suitability will be confirmed in the quotation.
Who manufactures this burner?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) builds it at its Ambala works and quotes for it as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of laboratory heating equipment and school science apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The burner is assembled in its own works rather than sourced from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Saudi Arabia in the Middle East, Latvia in Northern Europe, Croatia in Southern Europe, Paraguay in South America and Chad in Central Africa.
Heating Accessories
- Rubber Pipe For Bunsen Burner — neoprene tubing with reinforced ends for connecting the burner to the gas tap.
- Tripod Stand — a cast iron top on outward-bent legs for holding beakers over the flame.
- Wire Gauze — a flat gauze with a ceramic-filled centre for use on tripods.
- Test Tube Holder — a wooden holder for gripping a tube while it is heated.
