What Is the Lab Burner Used For?
In microbiology practicals it is the centre of aseptic technique: an inoculating loop is held in the flame until it glows red and cooled before use, the mouth of a culture tube is passed through the flame before and after a transfer, and cultures are opened close to the flame, where its updraft helps keep airborne microbes away. The same Bunsen burner heats test tubes and, on a tripod, beakers in general biology and chemistry experiments.
The air regulator decides the flame. With the air port closed it is yellow, luminous and sooty — easy to see, so it serves as a “safety flame” between tasks. Open the port and it turns blue and much hotter, with a pale inner cone; the hottest zone is just above the tip of that cone. With no stopcock, flame size is set at the bench gas tap, and the gas is shut off there after use.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Gas supply — LPG cylinder or piped natural gas, so the quotation can confirm the burner suits your supply.
- Gas control — none on this burner; choose the stopcock version linked below to trim the gas at the burner.
- Quantity and accessories — minimum 10 burners; rubber gas pipe and tripod stands are separate items for the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the flame burn yellow and smoky?
The air port is closed or nearly closed, so the gas burns with too little air. Open the air regulator gradually until the flame turns blue with a clear inner cone.
How is this burner different from the other JLab Burner listing?
The listed specification is the same — 12 mm nickel-plated tube, air regulator, riffled connector, painted cast iron base, no stopcock — and only the catalogue model number differs. Quote product code EL-BL-11310 so the order matches this listing.
Who manufactures this burner?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and supplies it factory-direct.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of school and college science apparatus and laboratory heating equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. These burners come from its own workshop, not a trader, so laboratories, dealers and importers order straight from the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to every region — Mexico in North America, Chile in South America, Samoa in Oceania, Hong Kong in East Asia and Uzbekistan in Central Asia, for example. Buyers preparing a tender can find details on the JLab lab tenders page.
