Evaporating a Solution in the Dish
Pour the filtrate in, set the dish on wire gauze over a low flame and heat gently until most of the water has gone, then leave the rest to evaporate so crystals can form. The spout pours off any remaining liquid cleanly. Move a hot dish with tongs and let it cool slowly, as a sudden chill can crack porcelain.
