What Is the Flip N Fraction Geoboard Used For?
A fraction is easiest to understand as equal parts of one whole, and a circle makes those parts easy to see. The circular side of this board, with its plastic circle cuts, lets students name halves, thirds, quarters and fifths and go on to twelfths, then compare them — seeing, for example, that a twelfth is smaller than a fifth, or that two quarters cover the same part of the circle as one half. Fraction work runs through the primary classes and into class 6 and class 7 maths, and the board serves that whole stretch. Turned over, the square peg grid gives a second surface for shape work on the same piece of maths lab equipment.
