Heat Pipe Demonstrator

Product Code : EL-HPD-7371
Jlab Export is a leading Heat Pipe Demonstrator Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Heat Pipe Demonstrator (code EL-HPD-7371) is a heat transfer set-up in which a stainless steel heat pipe charged with distilled water is compared with a copper pipe and a stainless steel pipe. The pipes are about 32 mm in diameter and 350 mm long, with Nichrome band heaters and a stainless steel heat sink. JLab manufactures each heat pipe demonstrator in Ambala, India.

How a Heat Pipe Moves Heat

A heat pipe is a sealed tube holding a small charge of working fluid, here distilled water, at reduced pressure. At the heated end the liquid evaporates and takes up latent heat; the vapour flows to the cooler end at the heat sink, condenses and gives that heat up; the liquid then returns to the heated end along a wick by capillary action, or under gravity when the heated end is lowest. Because evaporation and condensation both happen near the same saturation temperature, the pipe stays almost isothermal, with an effective conductivity far above that of a copper pipe.

Comparing the Heat Pipe with Copper and Stainless Steel

The heaters are set through the variac and read on the digital meters, while the RTD sensors give the temperature distribution along each pipe. The stainless steel pipe shows a steep fall from heater to sink, the copper pipe a gentler one, and the heat pipe an almost flat profile: the super thermal conductivity the experiment sets out to show. Because the heat pipe and the plain stainless steel pipe share a wall material, the difference between them comes from the working fluid. Readings logged against time also show the far end of the heat pipe warming sooner than those of the other two.

Other Set-ups for Heat Flow in Pipes and Rods

JLab places the demonstrator in its own Heat Pipe Demonstrator category under Heat Transfer Lab Equipment.
