What Is the Hollow Cylinder Used For?
A hollow cylinder is the shape of a pipe or tube, and its calculations are harder than those of a solid cylinder because there are two radii. Holding a transparent model, students can see the outer radius R (half the outer diameter), the inner radius r (half the inner diameter) and the height h. The volume of material is the outer cylinder minus the hole, πh(R² − r²); the total surface area is the outer curved surface 2πRh plus the inner curved surface 2πrh plus the two ring-shaped ends, 2π(R² − r²); and the mass follows from the volume of material multiplied by the density.
The model is used for class 9 and class 10 lessons on surface areas and volumes, and wherever pipes, tubes and rings appear in mensuration problems. Because the dimensions are given, students can measure the model, check the stated sizes and work the formulas on a real object.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — for example one model per group, or one for the teacher’s demonstration.
- Other solids — the hollow sphere and cylinder models linked below can be quoted on the same enquiry.
- Delivery details — the destination city or port and any tender reference.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dimensions of the Hollow Cylinder?
It is 14 cm high, with an outer diameter of 10 cm and an inner diameter of 5 cm.
What does it help students calculate?
The surface area, volume and mass of a hollow cylinder (a pipe), using the outer and inner radii and the height.
Who manufactures it?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of maths lab models and school laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The hollow cylinder model is made at JLab’s own works and supplied factory-direct to schools, dealers and importers rather than through a trader; each model is visually checked before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Poland in Eastern Europe, Algeria in North Africa, Bolivia in South America, Latvia in Northern Europe and the Dominican Republic in Central America and the Caribbean. Tender buyers can use the JLab lab tenders page.
