What Is the Hypothalamus Pituitary Hormones Model Used For?

The hypothalamus, at the base of the forebrain, contains neurosecretory cells that make two kinds of hormone. Releasing and inhibiting hormones travel through a portal system of blood vessels to the anterior pituitary — gonadotrophin-releasing hormone, for instance, triggers the release of gonadotrophins, while somatostatin holds back growth hormone. The anterior pituitary in turn secretes growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid-stimulating hormone, adrenocorticotrophic hormone and the gonadotrophins LH and FSH, which act on the thyroid, the adrenal cortex, the gonads and the mammary glands.

The posterior pituitary makes no hormones of its own. Oxytocin and vasopressin (ADH) are made in the hypothalamus, carried down nerve axons and released from the posterior lobe: oxytocin contracts the uterus during childbirth and ejects milk, and vasopressin increases water reabsorption in the kidney tubules. Students use the model to trace these pathways and to see how negative feedback — high thyroid hormone damping TSH release, for example — keeps hormone levels steady.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hormones and structures are labelled?
The listing does not say. Ask JLab for a description and photograph of the model with your quotation so you can check it against your syllabus.

Why is the pituitary called the master gland?
Several of its hormones control other endocrine glands, such as the thyroid, adrenal cortex and gonads. It is itself regulated by the hypothalamus, which is why the two are taught together.

What are the order and dispatch terms?
The minimum order is 10 units, each sold and inspected individually. Dispatch is usually within 7–10 working days; transit time for exports depends on the destination.

OEM Manufacturer

This model comes from Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), an Indian maker of teaching models and laboratory apparatus, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. It is built in JLab’s own workshop, not bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order factory-direct and reorders go back to the same maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tanzania in East Africa, Slovenia in Southern Europe, Norway in Northern Europe, Barbados in Central America and the Caribbean, and Chad in Central Africa.
