What Is the Hookworm Life Cycle Model Used For?
The hookworm needs no intermediate host. Eggs leave the body in faeces and hatch in warm, moist soil, where the larvae feed and grow into an infective stage. These larvae pierce the skin, most often of bare feet, travel in the blood to the lungs, are coughed up and swallowed, and settle in the small intestine. There the adults hook onto the gut wall with their mouthparts and feed on blood, so a heavy infection can lead to iron-deficiency anaemia.
Following the cycle on the model shows students why wearing footwear and using sanitary latrines protect a community. It fits the roundworm (Aschelminthes) topic of class 11 biology, where Ancylostoma is a textbook example, as well as college zoology and parasitology practicals and health-education lessons.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a person catch hookworm?
Mainly by skin contact with soil contaminated by human faeces: the infective larvae burrow through the skin, usually of the feet. There is no intermediate host in the cycle.
How is this model different from the Hook Worm Male Female Model?
This listing is named for the full life cycle; the other is named for the adult male and female worms. Neither listing gives further detail, so ask JLab if you need both.
Who makes this model?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) manufactures it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
Behind the JLab name is Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of zoology models and laboratory equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model comes from JLab’s own works rather than a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy from the maker, and each piece is inspected before dispatch. The company holds GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and is identified by Legal Entity Identifier 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Mali in West Africa, Gabon in Central Africa, Mexico in North America, Barbados in Central America and the Caribbean and Uganda in East Africa.
