What Is the Run-Over Injury Model Used For?
A laceration is a tear through the skin and deeper tissues produced by blunt force. Unlike an incised wound it has irregular, bruised and abraded margins, strands of vessels, nerves and connective tissue bridging its depth, and often dirt in the wound; it usually bleeds less than a clean cut. When a heavy wheel runs over a limb or the trunk, the crushing force can split the skin, break the bone beneath — an open or compound fracture when the bone communicates with the wound — and tear skin away from the deeper tissues, an injury known as flaying or degloving.
Forensic medicine students use the model to practise describing such injuries and to discuss what they reveal: patterned tyre-tread marks can point to the vehicle, and the pattern of injuries helps distinguish being struck from being run over. It suits medical college forensic departments, forensic science courses and road-safety or police training.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is a lacerated wound different from an incised wound?
A laceration is torn by blunt force and has ragged, bruised edges with tissue bridges; an incised wound is cut by a sharp edge and has clean edges with no bridging.
What does “fractured lacerated wound” mean?
A laceration with a broken bone beneath it, typical of severe crushing such as a run-over by a heavy vehicle.
Who manufactures it?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of teaching models and biology lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and sited on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is made in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so institutions, dealers and importers buy from the maker, with each unit inspected before shipping. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Fiji in Oceania, Norway in Northern Europe, the Maldives in South Asia, Mexico in North America and Bahrain in the Middle East.
