What Is the Herpes Simplex Infection Model Used For?
Herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) are enveloped DNA viruses of the herpesvirus family. In a primary infection the virus enters through the mouth, the genital mucosa or broken skin and multiplies in the epithelium, often producing clusters of painful vesicles; with HSV-1 this is classically gingivostomatitis in a young child, although many first infections pass unnoticed. The virus then travels up sensory nerve fibres to a ganglion — the trigeminal ganglion for most oral infections, the sacral ganglia for genital ones — and stays there in a latent state.
Fever, strong sunlight, stress or weakened immunity can reactivate it. The virus moves back down the nerve and causes a recurrence at or near the first site, such as a cold sore on the lip border, usually after a tingling or burning warning and milder than the primary attack. The model lets lecturers walk students through this primary–latent–recurrent sequence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which sites and stages does the model show?
The listing does not say. Ask JLab for a description and photo of the stages and labels before ordering.
Why does herpes simplex keep coming back?
Because the virus is never cleared: it stays latent inside sensory nerve cells, out of reach of the immune system, and can reactivate repeatedly.
Who manufactures this model?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of microbiology and pathology teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This model is made at JLab’s own works rather than bought in, so medical and dental colleges, dealers and importers deal with the maker directly. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tunisia in North Africa, Lesotho in Southern Africa, Bangladesh in South Asia, Ukraine in Eastern Europe and Fiji in Oceania.
