What Is the Cytomegalovirus Model Used For?
Like other herpesviruses, CMV keeps its double-stranded DNA inside an icosahedral capsid, surrounded by a protein layer called the tegument and an outer lipid envelope carrying glycoproteins. Its name means “large cell virus”: infected cells swell and show large “owl’s eye” inclusion bodies under the microscope. CMV spreads through body fluids such as saliva, urine, blood and breast milk, through sexual contact and from mother to baby. Most healthy people who catch it notice few symptoms, but the virus stays in the body in a dormant form for life, and infection matters most for unborn babies and people with weakened immunity.
The model is suited to virology and pathology lectures in medical, nursing and paramedical colleges, to B.Sc. and M.Sc. microbiology, and to maternal-health training where congenital infections are discussed.

- Herpesvirus set — consider the herpes simplex model for comparing two members of the same family.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does “cytomegalo” mean?
Enlarged cell. Cells infected with CMV become much bigger than normal and carry large inclusion bodies, which is how the virus got its name.
Is cytomegalovirus related to the herpes simplex virus?
Yes. Both belong to the herpesvirus family, share the same basic build of DNA core, capsid, tegument and envelope, and can stay dormant in the body after infection.
Who manufactures the model?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, which manufactures biology, medical-education and laboratory equipment in India. Incorporated in 2017, the company is based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana, and makes this CMV model in its own works rather than reselling a trader’s stock, so institutions, dealers and importers buy straight from the maker and each unit is inspected visually before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Armenia in Eastern Europe, Yemen in the Middle East, Burkina Faso in West Africa, Nepal in South Asia and Mexico in North America.
