What Is the Metastatic Amoebiasis Model Used For?

Amoebiasis begins when a person swallows the four-nucleate cysts of Entamoeba histolytica in food or water contaminated with faeces. In the large intestine the cysts release trophozoites, which can invade the colon wall and form flask-shaped ulcers, the lesion behind amoebic dysentery. The disease becomes metastatic when trophozoites enter the portal veins and are carried to the liver.

An amoebic liver abscess is the commonest result; it usually forms in the right lobe and holds thick reddish-brown pus often compared to anchovy sauce. An abscess may break through the diaphragm into the lung and pleura or, less often, reach the pericardium, and blood-borne spread can rarely seed the brain. The model helps lecturers link the parasite’s life cycle with the lesions students meet in pathology.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which organs and stages does the model show?
The listing does not say. Ask JLab for a description and photo of the organs, lesions and labels before ordering.

Why is the liver affected most often?
Blood from the colon drains through the portal vein straight to the liver, so trophozoites that enter vessels in the colon wall reach it first.

How does it differ from the Amoebic Liver Abscess Model?
That model centres on the liver abscess itself; this one is titled for metastatic amoebiasis as a whole. This listing does not give parts, so compare photos before choosing.

Who manufactures this model?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) makes it at its own works in Ambala, Haryana.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of pathology and parasitology teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. Because the model is built in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, medical colleges, dealers and importers deal directly with the maker for first and repeat orders. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tanzania in East Africa, Gabon in Central Africa, the Netherlands in Western Europe, Paraguay in South America and Botswana in Southern Africa.
