What Is the Intestinal Protozoa Model Used For?
Intestinal protozoa are single-celled eukaryotes with two main stages: the active, feeding trophozoite and the tough-walled cyst. Cysts passed in faeces survive outside the body and are swallowed with contaminated water, food or hands — the faecal–oral route — and houseflies can carry them onto food. In the gut each cyst releases trophozoites, which multiply and later form new cysts.
Entamoeba histolytica causes amoebiasis: its trophozoites invade the wall of the large intestine, forming flask-shaped ulcers and causing dysentery with blood and mucus, and they can reach the liver to form an abscess. Giardia lamblia, a flagellate, clings to the small-intestine lining with a ventral sucking disc and causes greasy diarrhoea and poor absorption. Balantidium coli is the only ciliate known to cause human disease, and Cryptosporidium causes watery diarrhoea that is most severe in people with weak immunity. Saline and iodine stool mounts reveal them; safe water, toilets and handwashing prevent spread.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the intestinal protozoa model show?
Infection by intestinal protozoa, as its title states. The species shown, parts, labels, size and material are not listed, so ask JLab for a description and photo before ordering.
Why is the cyst stage important?
It is both the infective stage and the hardy stage that survives outside the body, and it is the form usually looked for in stool samples.
How does it differ from the Cyst of Intestinal Protozoa of Man Model?
That model’s title points to the cyst stage used to identify these parasites, while this one covers the infection. Ask JLab what each shows if you want both.
OEM Manufacturer
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, manufactures zoology and biology lab equipment in India. It was incorporated in 2017, is based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana, and builds this model in its own works, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy from the maker rather than a trader. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Serbia in Southern Europe, Ireland in Western Europe, the Philippines in Southeast Asia, South Korea in East Asia and Moldova in Eastern Europe.
